Teen Arrested and Charged with Plotting Mass Shooting at Mall of America

A teen was arrested in connection with an alleged plot to carry out a mass shooting at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

18-year-old Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud was arrested for allegedly plotting to carry out a mass shooting on behalf of ISIS, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

To carry out the attack, Mohamud purchased guns and ammunition from an undercover FBI agent whom he believed to be a member of ISIS.

Mohamud gave the agent $600 in exchange for an AK-47 and 200 rounds of ammunition.

The FBI had been investigating Mohamud for two years.

Investigators communicated with Mohamud through multiple social media platforms, where he revealed his desire to carry out a mass-casualty attack in Minnesota because he lacked the funds to travel abroad to fight on behalf of a foreign terrorist organization.

According to the DOJ, Mohamud was arrested on Tuesday.

In a post on X, FBI Director Kash Patel reacted to the alleged plot and arrest:

“ Today the FBI arrested an individual who allegedly obtained a weapon to carry out an attack in support of ISIS. This FBI is finding terrorists BEFORE they can attack Americans — and we will keep using every resource we have to dismantle their networks across this country.
