The world right now is absolutely insane and a great way to get away from crazy is to stay home.

Home is a place where you can be yourself, relax, loosen your belt buckle and the top button on your collar. And right now, your house is one of the few places where you don’t have to socially distance from the entire human race. Now, if you want to stay home to protect yourself from coronavirus, or you like to avoid human contact, simply because other people tend to be problematic, then you need activities to prevent boredom. And a great way to stop yourself from going bonkers is to do some silly, fun, or relaxing things to blow off the stress of life. And home should be a judgment-free zone! It’s a place where you can create your own reality.

Singing Along with an opera

Search the web for the best opera singers and belt along with them. Hit all the high and low notes and follow along as closely as possible. If you aren’t confident in your vocal range because you sound like a yodeling sheep dangling off a cliff, opt for a lip-sync performance. It can be just as enjoyable without the collateral damage to the ears of your family and neighbors.

Uncle Jokes Competition

Corny, clean, lame Uncle jokes are timeless. (You can also, call them Dad jokes, Auntie jokes or Grandpa jokes. There’s no need to discriminate.) Get a few friends or family members to have an all-out joke war. Take turns telling your best cheesy jokes and see who can last the longest without cracking up. The beauty of a joke battle? It can be played in person or online. This game is a sure way to spread giggles.

Spa Day

Place thin cucumbers on your eyes, soak your feet in a bucket of hot water and play soothing classical music. Why not? Life is stressful, you need to make room to relax. Self-care is a way to love being at home.

Try a Mary Robin Storytelling Game

A simple game that needs no items other than your imagination. Two or more people tell one story. The catch is each person adds to the story, one sentence at a time. You can play this game in person or in a shared document, writing one statement a piece. Re-read the story and be amazed at the genius of the literary work created.

Throw a Royal Ball

You are queen or king of your castle and why not acknowledge it, by throwing a royal bash. Make your own crown from construction paper and cover it in glitter, so it can shine for your entire kingdom to see. Dress in your best threads and knight the lower members of your castle as prince, princess, duke, or duchess. Don’t forget to knight the royal pets and plants. And your royal court will make great pics for social media.

Find a New Skill

There’s no end to the skills you can learn with access to the internet and free time.

You can teach yourself a foreign language, video editing, origami, magic tricks, graphic design, or a new hair style. Create a painting or beautiful calligraphy. Go on and strengthen any skills you already have. You’ll thank yourself later.

Do Something Odd

Say the alphabet backward. Make a silly face in the mirror you never made before (don’t act like you don’t do it). Learn to walk on your hands. Throw a party with stuff animals as your guest. Make a superhero costume. Draw a face on a potato, name it and make him your pet. Whatever you do, don’t limit the strangeness or silliness of your new activity. There is nothing better than having a good laugh and living life in the moment.

Raid Your Closet

Search your closet, your basement, attic or wherever you store extra items, you don’t visit often. You’ll be amazed at all the fascinating things you didn’t realize you had. Memories will flood back when you see the old video games, clothes, Christmas cards and shoes. Who knew you still had that sweater your grandmother brought you for a gift, years ago?
